Why do people think breeding a mixed breed dog is good and pay good money for a socalled mutt?

for it but many mix breeds in a shelter is okay to euthanize? Mixed breeds can be very good and many of known breeds were mixed to get a standard but I can't understand today's world of breeding a so called hybrid and calling it a Designer breed for hundreds of dollars.
